Pre-Order
If your book isn't published yet, your book could be placed on the pre-order status on Amazon as a Kindle Book (also possible to have a physical pre-order book as well), this strategy lets you build sales for the launch day because they are counted the day the book is released and can be a good way to get the rankings moving the week of the launch.
Reviews
Consider creating a launch team who can help with reviews of your book, having a best selling book with very few reviews doesn't make sense. But typically you have to sell up to 100 books before you get one review.

As part of a launch team, you can also build an email list prior to the release where you can add extra value on the day.

Each week, USA TODAY collects sales data from booksellers representing a variety of outlets: bookstore chains, independent bookstores, mass merchandisers, and online retailers. Using that data, we determine the week’s 150 top-selling titles. The first 50 are published in the print version of USA TODAY each Thursday. The top 150 are published online. The rankings reflect sales from the previous Monday through Sunday.
Nielsen BookScan gathers point-of-sale book data from more than 16,000 locations across the U.S., representing about 85% of the nation’s book sales. Print-book data providers include all major booksellers (now inclusive of Wal-Mart) and Web retailers, and food stores. E-book data providers include all major e-book retailers (Apple excepted). Free e-books and those sold for less than 99 cents are excluded. The fiction and nonfiction lists in all formats include both adult and juvenile titles; the business list includes only adult titles. The combined lists track sales by title across all print and e-book formats; audio books are excluded.
Amazon ranks books per categories typically on an hourly basis and we aim to get you ranked as high as possible in many key categories as well as overall highest ranking on the books.
The sales rank of an item on our website indicates the popularity of that item. For example, a book with a sales rank of 1 is the number one selling book at bn.com. A book with a sales rank of 10 is the 10th highest-selling book on our website.
Barnes & Noble.com ranks books daily based on the previous six months of sales data from our web site and our stores. More recent sales are weighted more heavily than older sales. Sales ranking will change as new books are added to the database. If there are no sales during a particular amount of time, a title may lose its ranking.
